Purpose, Vision and Values of NUA

Purpose of NUA

Pursuant to provisions of Basic Act on Education (Act No.120 of 2006) and School Education Act (Act No.26 of 1947), the purpose of NUA is to carry out education and research in specialized scholarship and arts concerning the arts and specialized knowledge on human development, to give liberal arts education, and thereby to foster human resources who are able to contribute to the arts, culture and human development in Japan.

Vision and Values

NUA aims to realize creation of new values by cross-cutting academic engagement based on well-balanced educational concepts with intelligence and sensitivity. The university also intends to contribute to the local community and society by intensifying its effort into career education, by strengthening cooperation with local governments and businesses, and by developing education and research with the arts.

Purpose of the School of the Arts

The School of the Arts aims to cultivate individuals with a broad foundation of knowledge and skills in the fields of Music, Performing Arts Production and Management, Arts, Design, and Arts and Liberal Arts. It also emphasizes the development of essential abilities for collaboration, such as language proficiency, logical thinking, and communication skills required in a global society. Through the medium of arts, the program fosters individuals who take initiative and actively engage with society.

The School of Education is dedicated to cultivating early childhood and primary education professionals who possess refined sensitivity and a deep commitment to supporting the growth and development of children. This is achieved through comprehensive instruction in both the theoretical foundations and practical methodologies of childcare and education.

The goal is to cultivate individuals with the character to contribute to the community and society by teaching specialized academic and technical skills in the arts and providing art education grounded in historical and social perspectives.

Vision and Values of the School of Education

The School of Education is committed to cultivating childcare professionals, as well as kindergarten and elementary school teachers, who are capable of making meaningful contributions to their local communities. Through a comprehensive curriculum encompassing the study of educational theories, the acquisition of practical skills, and the accumulation of experiential learning such as teaching practicums, students develop artistic sensitivity and the professional competencies necessary to support the holistic growth and development of children in both educational and welfare settings.

School of the Arts

In order to cultivate individuals who recognize the creative value of the arts, strive to realize their full potential, and aspire to contribute to society through their abilities, the Faculty seeks applicants who understand its stated mission, educational philosophy, and objectives, and who embody the qualities outlined in the following “Ideal Student Profile” as defined by each academic discipline.

Ideal Student Profile

  • Music Division
    Applicants should possess a strong motivation and passion for music, along with the diligence and ability to study both music theory and practice. They should also have a broad perspective and interest in artistic culture, as well as a vision for contributing to the formation of a culturally enriched society through the advancement of music.
  • Performing Arts Production and Management Division
    Applicants should demonstrate a deep passion for and interest in the value and role of the performing arts (including music, theatre, and dance) in society, and exhibit a strong desire to learn. They should have rich creativity and imagination, as well as communication skills, and be motivated to contribute to the development of the performing arts and the resolution of social issues through these art forms.
  • Art Division
    Applicants should have a strong interest in and curiosity about fine arts, recognize the creative value in artistic production and expression, and aspire to contribute to society through these pursuits. They should be equipped with a broad perspective and strong motivation.
  • Design Division
    Applicants should show a strong interest in and curiosity about design, and aspire to contribute to society by solving various problems through creativity and critical thinking in the process of making and designing. A broad perspective and motivation are essential.
  • Arts and Liberal Arts Division
    Applicants should be interested not only in the various fields within the Faculty of Arts but also in diverse contemporary cultures and societies. They should be eager to collaborate in addressing regional and social issues by applying their own ideas, knowledge, and sensibilities.

The Bachelor of Arts degree is conferred upon individuals who have acquired the knowledge and abilities necessary to contribute to society through specialized and practical engagement, and who have successfully completed the prescribed credits.

In order to cultivate individuals who aspire to become highly skilled childcare workers, kindergarten and elementary school teachers, or who seek to contribute to society through various forms of engagement with children, the Faculty seeks applicants who understand its mission, educational philosophy, and objectives, and who embody the qualities described in the following “Ideal Student Profile.”

  • A clear motivation to pursue a career in childcare and education—such as a childcare worker, kindergarten teacher, or elementary school teacher—or to work in fields involving children.

Curriculum Policy of School of Education The curriculum is designed to enable students to clearly define their career paths and respond effectively to the increasing demands of diversity in the professional field. This is achieved through a creative and well-structured integration of three training programs: childcare worker training, kindergarten teacher training, and elementary school teacher training.
Diploma Policy of School of Education

The Bachelor of Education degree is awarded to individuals who, in accordance with the university’s founding philosophy, have developed a humanistic, sensitive, creative, and cultured character rooted in the arts, and who embrace the attitude of “finding joy in the unknown.” These individuals will have acquired fundamental knowledge and practical skills in the fields of education and childcare, and will be capable of collaborating with others to address diverse and open-ended challenges with a spirit of playfulness. Through such engagement, they support children’s development, contribute to their communities, continue to grow, and create new value. The specific competencies and qualities required for the degree are outlined in the following “Learning Outcomes.”
